The Ebonyi State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on violent crime, arresting 131 suspects in a series of operations that also rescued two kidnapped students in Ikwo LGA.
Commissioner of Police, Adaku Uche-Anya, told journalists on Wednesday that the arrests, made between July and mid-August, cut across armed robbery, murder, kidnapping, and crisis instigation.
Among the breakthroughs was the August 14 rescue of two kidnap victims, with three suspects apprehended. Another raid on a hideout in Ohaukwu LGA led to the arrest of Icha Chidiebere and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a Dakota vehicle, and a Lexus SUV.
In total, the police recovered 15 firearms, 50 rounds of ammunition, and six stolen vehicles while dislodging several criminal camps.
Uche-Anya explained that recurring land and boundary disputes in the agrarian state were being managed through intelligence gathering, early warning mechanisms, and dialogue with community stakeholders.
She assured Ebonyi residents of the command’s determination to keep the state safe, noting that 52 suspects have already been charged to court.
