Ebonyi Police Rescue Kidnap Victim, Foil Armed Robbery

The Ebonyi State Police Command has rescued a kidnap victim, Thank-God Obasi, who was reportedly tied up and locked in a hotel toilet in Ezzangbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area (LGA).

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abakaliki. He said Obasi was abducted by a syndicate demanding a ₦5 million ransom. Following intelligence-led operations, police traced the kidnappers’ hideout, rescued the victim, and arrested three suspects: Uchenna Ogbozuru, Ebuka Ejiogu, and Chizoba Idenyi Ogwa.

“The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” Ukandu added.

The statement also reported that police foiled an armed robbery attempt along the Ehamufu–Nkalagu Road in Ishielu LGA on 12 November. Officers on patrol heard gunshots and distress calls and found Ali Solomon being attacked by three armed robbers attempting to steal his motorcycle. The suspects opened fire on police before fleeing. Officers returned fire, neutralising one suspect and recovering an AK-47 rifle with ten rounds of ammunition.

SP Ukandu described both operations as significant successes in the command’s ongoing fight against crime in the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mrs Adaku Uche-Anya, reiterated the force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring residents that “criminal elements have no hiding place within the state.”
