The Ebonyi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the public to disregard reports of the suspension of some of its leaders, describing the claim as false and orchestrated by faceless individuals with no standing in the party.
Moses Idika, Director of Media and Publicity of the Anyi Ga-Emeya Movement during the 2023 general elections, stated this in a release issued to journalists in Abakaliki on Wednesday.
Idika said those behind the purported suspension lacked the authority to act on behalf of the party, stressing that the PDP in Ebonyi currently has no State Working Committee (SWC).
“The attention of the PDP in Ebonyi has been drawn to a statement by a faceless individual parading as the ‘Publicity Secretary’ of the party, claiming that prominent leaders have been suspended,” he said. “For the avoidance of doubt, the PDP in Ebonyi currently has no SWC and therefore cannot take any decision on behalf of the party.”
He explained that the congress organized by former Southeast Zonal Chairman, Chief Ali Odefa, was nullified by the Federal High Court in a judgment delivered on November 11, 2024 (Suit No: FHC/AI/CS/183/2024).
Idika added that another Federal High Court ruling in Abuja on October 31, 2025 (Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/2025) reaffirmed the nullification and upheld Odefa’s expulsion from the PDP.
He maintained that the state chapter is currently working with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to fix a new date for its congresses as directed by the court.
In his reaction, the PDP Legal Adviser, Chief Mudi Erhenede, described the alleged suspension as “null and void,” saying it amounted to contempt of court.
“This faction does not exist in the eyes of the law. What they did is purely contempt of court,” he said.
