Dr Umar D. Duhu has strongly defended Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum against allegations made by activist Omoyele Sowore.
In a statement on Tuesday, Duhu described Sowore’s claims that Governor Zulum allocated billions of naira to Boko Haram militants as “false, malicious, and defamatory.”
He stressed that all government spending in Borno undergoes a rigorous vetting process in line with existing laws and procurement regulations.
According to him, there is no record of Zulum ever diverting funds to militants or to any programme outside legal and accountable frameworks.
Duhu further explained that individuals arrested in Borno were not innocent bystanders but people engaged in activities that threatened peace and security in the state.
He dismissed the idea that Zulum was “pampering terrorists,” insisting the governor was instead upholding the rule of law and prioritising citizens’ safety.
Duhu accused Sowore of attempting to tarnish Zulum’s reputation and warned that legal action would be taken if defamatory remarks continued.
He called on the public to disregard fake news, stressing that the governor remains committed to peace, stability, and good governance in Borno State.
