Don’t Appoint Non-sports Administrators Again, Ondo FA Urges Aiyedatiwa

The Ondo State Football Association (ODSFA) has urged Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa to ensure that administrators with sporting backgrounds were henceforth appointed to hold leadership positions in the sports sector in the state.

The association made its position known in a communique signed by its Chairman, Mr Akinsola Akindipe and Secretary, Segun Giwa, and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Akure, after its congress.

The football association said that there was a need for the governor to revamp the sports sector with his future appointments, so as to turnaround the dwindling fortune of the sector.

“The governor needs to plan with people knowledgeable about the game of football and go back to the basics, and synergise with the State FA to help build the game of football.

“The blueprint of ODSFA should also be revisited and I urge the government to speedily complete the playing pitch of the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure, to attract more football matches to the state.

“It is sad that the state sports council only has two football coaches. There should be another government body saddled with discovering and nurturing talents in sports across the state,” the communique read in parts.

The congress, through the communiqué congratulated the governor on his first 100 days in office, noted that the state FA did so much to support the management of Sunshine Stars FC to ensure that the team avoided relegation but all were to no avail.

The communique also quoted the leadership of ODSFA as expressing confidence in the ability of the management of Sunshine Stars FC to bounce back to the elite league.

It stated that the Ondo State Football League, which would be an age-grade football competition for young footballers in the state, would be used to nurture talents to stardom.

“We have agreed to pursue the case instituted by Coach Kayode Adeyemi and others in respect to the outcome of the election of the State FA,” the communique quoted the congress. (NAN)
