Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the National Credit Guarantee Company Limited (NCGC), Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has honoured elder statesman General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (GCON), describing him as a rare national treasure whose courage, integrity, and principled leadership continue to define Nigeria’s search for stability and progress.
In a tribute released to mark General Danjuma’s birthday, Dogara said the retired General represents the finest qualities of patriotism—courage in conflict, restraint in power, and unwavering commitment to the unity of the nation. He noted that Danjuma’s early years in the Nigerian Army placed him at the forefront of some of the most decisive chapters of the country’s history, where his leadership and clarity of purpose helped steer Nigeria through turbulence.
Dogara emphasized that Danjuma’s retirement from active service did not diminish his influence or commitment to the country. Instead, he transitioned into a statesman of uncommon stature, investing his resources, wisdom, and voice in the strengthening of communities and institutions across Nigeria. He applauded the T. Y. Danjuma Foundation for its widespread humanitarian impact, supporting education, healthcare delivery, poverty reduction, and social development in underserved communities.
He further praised General Danjuma’s consistency in speaking truth to power, describing him as one of the few leaders whose voice carries the moral weight needed to remind those in authority of their duty to the citizens. Dogara said Danjuma’s courage to speak out—especially at times when silence would have been politically convenient—has earned him a place as the conscience of Nigeria’s leadership class.
“Today, we celebrate not just a milestone in age, but the enduring legacy of a man who has given himself wholly to the service of Nigeria,” Dogara said. “General T. Y. Danjuma is the conscience and courage of our nation—a leader who has stood firm for unity, justice, and the protection of the weak. His story is woven into the very soul of Nigeria.”
On behalf of the National Credit Guarantee Company Limited and in his personal capacity, Dogara prayed for long life, strength, and continued grace for the elder statesman. He described Danjuma as “a pillar of integrity, a guardian of national stability, and one of the most enduring symbols of patriotic leadership.”
Dogara concluded by reiterating that future generations will continue to draw inspiration from General Danjuma’s life, describing him as “a man whose impact will echo far beyond his time.”
