Divorced Mother Declares: ‘I Won’t Leave My Ex-Husband’s Home

Latinate Sanusi, a mother of six, firmly told the Shari’a court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna, that she will not vacate her ex-husband’s residence following three declared divorces.

This declaration came in response to a plea from her former spouse, Abdulrazak Yunusa, who sought the court’s intervention to enforce the divorces and compel her departure.

Ms Sanusi argued, “All my children are girls, and I want to remain here to care for them; he fails to provide for most of their needs.”

Conversely, Mr Yunusa contended that he fulfills his family obligations and cited her lack of submission as the reason for the divorce.

After hearing both arguments, Judge Kabir Muhammas confirmed the three divorces, indicating that the marriage is dissolved until Ms Sanusi chooses to remarry. He advised that child custody matters would need to be addressed in a separate filing.
