Delta State Governor Oborevwori Presents N1.664 Trillion 2026 Budget To House Of Assembly

Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State on Wednesday presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill of N1.664 trillion to the State House of Assembly in Asaba.

The governor said N499 billion, representing 30 per cent of the total budget, is earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while N1.165 trillion, or 70 per cent, is allocated to capital expenditure. He noted that the proposed budget reflects a 70 per cent increase over the 2025 appropriation.

Oborevwori highlighted key priorities, including N450 billion for road projects and N10 billion for the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He described road infrastructure as a catalyst for economic growth, improving market access, reducing transportation costs, attracting investment, and generating employment. He also emphasised agriculture’s role in economic diversification, food security, and self-reliance.

The governor outlined that funding for the budget would come from statutory allocations, internally generated revenue, mineral derivation, and Value Added Tax, among other sources. He urged the House to expedite consideration and passage of the bill to sustain ongoing development initiatives, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to a “prosperous, secure, and stronger Delta where no one is left behind.”

In response, Speaker Dennis Guwor praised Oborevwori for his steady governance under the “Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda,” noting sustained investments in infrastructure, social interventions, fiscal management, and initiatives promoting peace, security, and economic stability. He also commended the governor for approving the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS) and initiating construction of permanent offices for the Assembly Service Commission.

Guwor assured the governor of the Assembly’s commitment to a thorough review of the budget, stressing that members remain united in supporting the state’s development vision and people-centered governance.
