The Delta State Police Command has intensified its clampdown on cult-related violence with the arrest of 12 suspected cult members in Jesse community, Ethiope West Local Government Area.
Spokesman for the command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development in Warri on Monday, saying the suspects were apprehended on Sunday during a coordinated operation by the state anti-cult unit.
According to Edafe, the raid was prompted by a series of cult clashes and attacks that had unsettled the Jesse axis in recent weeks.
“Acting on credible intelligence, our operatives stormed a criminal hideout in Jesse where 12 suspected cultists were arrested. A Beretta pistol and one live ammunition were recovered from the scene,” he said.
Edafe assured residents that the police remain committed to dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace to troubled communities.
The suspects are currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to establish their level of involvement in recent cult activities.
