Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has urged employers across the state not to reject any National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to them, emphasising the importance of providing a conducive working environment for youths to contribute meaningfully to community and national development.
Oborevwori made the remarks on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of NYSC Batch C, Stream 1, held at the orientation camp in Issele-Uku. He was represented by the Commissioner for Special Projects, Mr Funyei Manager.
The governor appealed to corps members to willingly accept their postings, particularly to rural communities, stressing that national service values cannot be achieved if postings are consistently refused. “These communities need your service the most,” he said.
He encouraged participants to embrace national service with seriousness, commitment, and patriotism, noting that the orientation programme lays a strong foundation for NYSC’s other core initiatives. He also highlighted the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, which equips corps members with practical skills for financial independence and self-reliance.
Oborevwori further urged corps members to integrate positively with host communities, uphold laws, respect local customs, and serve as ambassadors of the NYSC scheme. He stressed the importance of the Community Development Service (CDS) in addressing genuine community needs and leaving a lasting impact.
The governor also commended the NYSC management for sustaining entrepreneurial programmes and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for installing 229 solar-powered streetlights at the camp, enhancing security and aesthetics.
State NYSC Coordinator, Mr John Kwange, praised Governor Oborevwori for his continued support and interventions towards the success of the scheme in Delta State.
