Fans of Nigerian Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, have expressed disappointment on social media following his loss at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
Davido, nominated in the Best African Music Performance category, lost to South African singer Tyla, who won with her viral track Push 2 Start. Other nominees included Burna Boy (Love), Davido and Omah Lay (With You), Ayra Starr and Wizkid (Gimme Dat), and Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin (Hope & Love).
The defeat marks the second consecutive year that Davido has been edged out by Tyla, despite a high-profile campaign to secure the award. Many fans alleged that the singer was unfairly sidelined, describing the result as a snub and criticising the credibility of the Recording Academy.
Some fans expressed outrage on Twitter, while others emphasised that Grammy recognition does not define Davido’s success, citing his consistency, global impact, and enduring popularity. Supporters urged the singer to continue producing music for his fans, with Cubana Chiefpriest encouraging him to “open the bag and drop another hot one for us.”
The 68th annual Grammy Awards took place on Sunday, Feb. 1, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, hosted for the sixth consecutive year by South African comedian Trevor Noah.
