Former President of the Nigerian Senate, David Mark, has issued a passionate appeal to the Federal Government to urgently intervene in the ongoing security crisis in Benue State, where escalating attacks have left many dead and communities devastated.
The call came in a statement released by his media adviser, Paul Mumeh, in Kano on Monday. Mark described the current spate of killings as “inhumane and intolerable,” warning that government inaction would further embolden perpetrators.
He underscored that any government’s foremost duty is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its people. “This cycle of violence cannot continue. It is senseless, tragic, and utterly unacceptable,” he stated.
While urging the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia to bolster its local response, Mark also called for a united front involving federal security agencies, community leaders, and traditional rulers.
He appealed for vigilance and active collaboration with security personnel to track down those behind the violence. “Our people must not give in to fear. This is a time for collective courage and unity,” he said.
Mark offered a message of hope to those affected, encouraging them to remain law-abiding and resilient. “In times like these, we must draw strength from our communal spirit and support one another as brothers and sisters.”
The statement comes amid rising concern over attacks in rural Benue communities, which have faced persistent insecurity due to long-standing tensions in the region.
