Dapo Abiodun Opens Laderin–Wole Soyinka Train Station Road, Eyes 20 More Roads Across Ogun

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has inaugurated the Laderin–Wole Soyinka train station road in Abeokuta, announcing that 20 additional roads will be commissioned across the state as part of celebrations for Ogun’s 50th anniversary.

At the inauguration on Tuesday, Abiodun described the train station as a major hub connecting Ogun with Lagos, Oyo, and northern Nigeria. He noted that the state’s five train stations underscore Ogun’s critical role in national economic development.

The governor explained that access roads were not originally included when the rail line was built, prompting his administration to rehabilitate the route under its multimodal transportation initiative. He said the road serves around 150,000 passengers daily, including investors travelling between Ogun, Oyo, and Lagos states.

Abiodun added that the project is part of over 1,600 kilometres of roads constructed across Ogun. He also highlighted the ongoing reconstruction of the 100-kilometre Sagamu Interchange–Papalanto–Opele road, describing it as an east-west corridor that will provide an alternative route to Abeokuta, while stimulating trade and commerce along the route.

“Of the 40-kilometre stretch between Sagamu Interchange and Papalanto, we have reconstructed about 25 kilometres using reinforced concrete. Upon completion, trucks and vehicles conveying goods from Ota, Ifo, and Ewekoro will bypass the Abeokuta–Sagamu expressway and connect directly to Papalanto,” he said.

The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, represented by Permanent Secretary Lateef Yusuf, added that the three-kilometre road will also improve access to the MKO Abiola trade fair complex, Laderin, Lukosi, and surrounding areas, facilitating movement and boosting commercial activity.
