Dangote Group Reaffirms Commitment To Nigeria’s Industrialisation At Lagos Trade Fair

Mrs Fatima Aliko-Dangote, Group Executive Director, Commercial Operations, Dangote Group, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the full industrialisation of Nigeria, speaking at the ongoing 2025 Lagos International Trade Fair organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

Represented by Mrs Funmi Sanni, Group Head, Sales and Marketing, Dangote Cement Plc, Aliko-Dangote described industrialisation as the most viable path to value addition, economic diversification, and large-scale job creation for Nigerian youths. She disclosed plans to expand Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels by 2028.

She highlighted the trade fair’s theme, “Connecting Businesses, Creating Value”, as timely, reflecting LCCI’s vision of uniting manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, and consumers.

Aliko-Dangote emphasised the group’s African-focused investment philosophy, citing projects across the continent:

$2.5 billion Urea Fertiliser Production Complex in Gode, Ethiopia, in partnership with Ethiopian Investment Holdings, expected to generate thousands of jobs.

$400 million expansion of Dangote Cement Plant in Ethiopia and a 3Mta Côte d’Ivoire grinding plant, increasing the company’s total capacity to 55Mta across Africa.

Construction of a 6Mta integrated cement plant in Itori, Ogun State, dedicated for export to neighbouring countries.

She added that Dangote Fertiliser Ltd., Dangote Polypropylene, Dangote Sugar Refinery, and NASCON Allied Industries Plc remained leaders in their sectors. She also reaffirmed Dangote Sugar’s commitment to ending raw sugar importation through its $700 million backward integration project.

Speaking at the fair, Dangote Sugar Refinery CEO Ravindra Singhvi unveiled two new sugar packaging sizes—25kg and 100g bags—to meet changing consumer preferences and streamline distribution. He described the initiatives as part of the company’s plan to produce sugar from Nigeria, by Nigerians, for Nigerians.

LCCI President Gabriel Idahosa praised Dangote Group’s industrial leadership, noting the Dangote Refinery’s capacity to meet local demand as a key factor in improving Nigeria’s economic outlook.

Aliko-Dangote expressed hope that the trade fair would help expand awareness of innovative products, open new markets, create jobs, and support overall economic development.
