Authorities in Cross River State, southern Nigeria, have announced a high success rate in the 2025 primary six placement examinations, with over 93 per cent of pupils passing.
According to the Commissioner for Education, Senator Professor Stephen Odey, 43,414 pupils out of 46,438 candidates cleared the exams. He revealed that 1,509 pupils did not meet the required standard, while results for another 1,500 candidates were put on hold due to non-compliance with digital payment and registration procedures.
Highlighting reforms introduced by the Ministry, Odey said pupils would now receive official certificates immediately with their results, marking a shift from the previous system that relied on testimonials. He stressed that digitisation was central to ensuring transparency and efficiency in the process.
The Commissioner also issued a stern warning to proprietors of unapproved private schools, stating that institutions without the necessary infrastructure risk closure for undermining educational quality in the state.
“Our goal is to ensure that Cross River’s education system remains among the best in Nigeria, driven by innovation and reforms,” Odey stated.
