Cross River PDP Caucus Opposes Tenure Extension For State Chairman

The Cross River South Senatorial District caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected moves by the faction loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to influence the party’s state leadership.

Rising from a meeting in Calabar on Wednesday, the caucus dismissed the Abuja resolution seeking to extend the tenure of state chairman Venatius Ikem, describing his leadership as divisive.

According to a communiqué signed by state vice chairman Asuquo Ekpo, the caucus reaffirmed its commitment to a united front at the 27 September state congress and insisted the southern district would retain its allotted party offices.

The caucus directed local governments to present competent candidates for the exercise and said it remained open to realigning zoning arrangements if necessary.

It also commended PDP National Woman Leader Amina Bryhm for her “bold and decisive” steps to stabilise the party in Cross River.

The PDP in the state is currently factionalised between Wike loyalists and those aligned with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has since moved to the ADC.
