A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, presided over by Magistrate, Ekpeyong Inyang, has ordered a 23-year-old man, Victor Daniel to clean the court’s premises for four days for stealing.
Inyang ordered Daniel to spend three hours daily doing the community service and to pay the complainant, one Mr Christian Maneke N750, 000 as compensation.
He added that failure of the defendant to pay the compensation, the convict would serve seven months in the correctional centre.
Daniel is standing trial for conspiracy and theft, for which he pleaded guilty and begged the court for mercy.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Donatus Abah told the court that the complainant reported the matter at the FCT Police Command on March 26.
Abah said that the complainant’s company, Swifta Logistics Express Services Limited employed Daniel as a dispatch rider and entrusted him with one Avatar Motorcycle for the job in March.
He said that Daniel criminally conspired with one, Timothy Jerry and sold the Motorcycle at N400, 000.
The prosecution said that the value of the motorcycle was N1.5 million, adding that during investigations; Jerry confessed to have received the stolen motorcycle and sold it.
However, Jerry, pleaded not guilty to dishonestly receiving stolen property and was granted bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties.
The Magistrate ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He also adjourned Jerry’s matter until July 21 for trial.(NAN)
