An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State has sentenced a 38-year-old self-proclaimed Muslim prophet, Azeez Aboderin, to two years in prison for defrauding a woman of N2.2 million under false pretence.
The convict, whose address was not disclosed, was found guilty of two counts: fraud and obtaining money under false pretence. He initially pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate O.O. Fadairo ruled that the prosecution had established the case beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced Aboderin to two years’ imprisonment with an option of N200,000 fine.
The court also ordered him to refund the N2.2 million to the complainant, Oyeniyi Mariam, as restitution.
According to the prosecuting counsel, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, the offence was committed between January and July 2025 at Iyana-Iyesi, Ota. He told the court that Aboderin collected the money under the guise of helping the complainant with a personal problem but diverted the funds for his own use.
