Chinese Educator Urges Media Organisations To Leverage Multimedia For Enhanced Communication

Prof. Fang Jianyi, a Chinese educator at the Communication University of Zhejiang, China, on Monday,
urged media organisations to leverage audio-visual multimedia for effective communication.
Fang gave the advice during a lecture series at a seminar for Omni-media journalists from English-Speaking African countries currently taking place
in Hangzhou, Jinhuan city, China.
The Chinese teacher, who spoke on “Communication Effectiveness and Talents Cultivation in Fragmented Audio-Visual Era”, said
“effective communication entails all effects and inputs on the audience and the society, including direct, indirect, explicit and potential effects.”
The teacher advocated the cultivation of audio-visual multimedia composite talents of high competence, rich cultural knowledge, keen observation
and broadened horizon to enable communication to remain true to its original aspiration.
Fang explained the current situation of audience audio-visual fragmentation based on the 54th Statistical Report on development of the internet
in China, saying that “as of June 2024, the number of internet users in that country hit 1.1 billion.”
He added that the average weekly online time per person was 29 hours, explaining that “teenagers and the elderly are important sources of
new internet users.
“Consequently, short videos have become an important application for new internet users to connect to the Internet.”
Journalists from Ghana, South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Mauritius, Zambia, Gambia, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Benin and Nigeria are participating in
the seminar which started on Oct. 31 till Nov. 13, 2024. (NAN)
