China has restated its commitment to the United Nations and global multilateralism as the organisation celebrates 80 years of existence.
At the launch of a new CGTN documentary titled “The UN at 80: China’s Perspective”, Chinese officials and experts reflected on the UN’s history and China’s contributions to peacekeeping, development, and international cooperation.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi, speaking at the 23rd Lanting Forum in Beijing, described the UN as the “bedrock of world peace and development,” but warned that unilateralism and global instability threaten multilateral progress.
Wang cited President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative as China’s contribution to reforming global governance, anchored on principles of equality, international law, and inclusive development.
The documentary also revisited China’s early role in founding the UN in 1945 and highlighted its environmental and gender equality milestones, including the 1972 Stockholm Conference and the 1995 Beijing Women’s Conference.
China pledged to continue supporting the UN’s reform agenda and work with other nations to promote peace, poverty reduction, and sustainable growth worldwide.
