Chelle, Iwobi Confident As Nigeria Face Morocco In AFCON Last Four

Nigeria coach Eric Chelle says the Super Eagles remain focused and confident despite a demanding travel schedule ahead of Wednesday’s AFCON semi-final clash with hosts Morocco.

The Super Eagles, three-time African champions, have endured repeated journeys across Morocco during the knockout stages, unlike the Atlas Lions, who have played all their matches in Rabat. Nigeria topped Group C but were required to change venues several times en route to the semi-final.

Chelle admitted the travel had taken its toll but stressed that mentality would be key against Morocco.

“The journey has been difficult, physically and mentally,” he said. “But the players understand what is at stake. They are prepared and determined to reach the final.”

He noted that Nigeria may begin the match cautiously, allowing Morocco more possession before pressing harder later in the game.

“My players are tired, so we may start compact and manage the game better early on,” Chelle explained. “In the second half, we hope to return to our usual pressing and attacking style.”

Midfielder Alex Iwobi echoed his coach’s confidence, saying belief and unity had driven Nigeria’s strong performances.

“Our mentality hasn’t changed,” Iwobi said. “We trust each other and fight for one another. When you have that kind of togetherness, results follow.”

Iwobi also dismissed suggestions that Nigeria’s improvement was down to tactical changes alone.

“It’s about commitment, belief and giving everything on the pitch,” he said. “Right now, it’s working for us.”

The semi-final will take place at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, where Morocco will once again count on vocal home support as Nigeria chase a place in the AFCON final.
