Buhari’s Remains Departs Katsina For Daura

The body of former President Muhammadu Buhari began its final journey home on Tuesday as a solemn motorcade departed Katsina for Daura, where he will be buried.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the hearse, carrying the late leader’s remains, left Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport at around 3:15 p.m. President Bola Tinubu joined the procession, accompanied by senior military officers, serving and former governors, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, ministers and prominent figures from Nigeria’s business community.

As the convoy made its way towards Daura—a town nearly 89 kilometres away—large crowds gathered along the route, reflecting on the legacy of a figure many analysts regard as one of the most respected politicians of Nigeria’s modern era.

Earlier in the afternoon, Buhari’s body arrived in Katsina aboard a flight from London, accompanied by Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila. President Tinubu, who had travelled ahead, was on hand to receive the late president’s remains.

A short military ceremony honoured Buhari at the airport before the coffin was carefully placed into the waiting hearse, marking the beginning of his final journey to Daura.
