BUA Cement’s ₦40m Bursary Scheme Brings Hope To Students In Sokoto, Kebbi And Zamfara

BUA Cement has provided a major boost to students from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states with the disbursement of ₦40 million in bursaries to support their education. The event, held on Tuesday in Kalambaina–Sokoto, marked another milestone in the company’s growing investment in community development.

Managing Director Mr Yusuf Binji, represented by Plant Director Mr Aminu Bashar, said the initiative was part of BUA Cement’s commitment to uplifting communities surrounding its operations. He noted that 200 students drawn from various higher institutions benefitted from the scheme, with each receiving ₦200,000. Fifty of the recipients were selected from host communities in Wamakko LGA.

Binji emphasised that the beneficiaries were carefully screened to ensure fairness and transparency, stressing that the bursary was designed particularly to help less-privileged indigenous students. He encouraged the recipients to channel the funds into their studies and assured that the company planned to broaden its support to include additional social services.

Alhaji Aliyu Gumel, Director of the Health, Community, Safety and Environment Department, explained that the bursary was part of BUA’s resolve to give back to society. He said the company collaborated with state scholarship boards to identify eligible students, ensuring the scheme directly benefited those most in need.

Speaking for the benefiting communities, Ubandoman Arkilla, Alhaji Aliyu Shehu, described the gesture as transformative, applauding BUA Cement for consistently delivering meaningful corporate social responsibility projects.

Wamakko LGA Chairman, Alhaji Umar Dundaye, also commended the company, noting that its interventions extended far beyond educational support. He highlighted improvements in healthcare, school facilities, water supply, electricity and empowerment programmes, all of which had significantly enhanced the wellbeing of local residents.

The ceremony drew several dignitaries, including the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmad Aliyu on Corporate Services, Alhaji Usman Farko; the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara Scholarship Board, Prof. Rashida Liman; and Kebbi State’s Director of Students’ Affairs, Alhaji Yusuf Abubakar.
