Lawmakers in Benue State have confirmed four more commissioner nominees to join Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration, strengthening his cabinet formation three weeks after the previous council was dissolved.
Speaker Hyacinth Dajoh announced the approvals during Friday’s plenary in Makurdi. All four nominees were former members of the state executive council and were confirmed without rigorous questioning, being asked only to “take a bow and leave.”
The returning commissioners include Dr Yanmar Ortese (Health), Mr Michael Oglegba (Finance), Dr Frederick Ikyaan (Education and Knowledge Management), and Mr Orpin Alumo (Industry, Trade and Investment).
Their confirmation follows Wednesday’s approval of six nominees, while two others were rejected by legislators. In total, 10 out of 12 individuals screened by the assembly have been cleared.
The swift confirmations indicate Governor Alia is moving closer to reconstituting his executive council, ensuring continuity in key sectors such as health, finance, and education.
