Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has endorsed the state assembly’s resolution seeking an investigation into the Universal Basic Education Board by suspending its chair, Dr Grace Adagba.
Adagba will step aside for one month, though lawmakers had voted to suspend her for six months. The House said the measure was necessary to examine her stewardship of the board.
Alia also announced the one-month suspension of Otukpo Council Chairman Maxwell Ogiri and Lottery Commission head Michael Uper.
In a statement, the governor reaffirmed his “unwavering commitment to rule of law, due process and separation of powers” and praised the assembly for exercising its oversight role.
He asked the suspended officials’ agencies to ensure continuity of services during the period and appealed for public support for his administration’s reforms.
