The Benue State House of Assembly has debunked rumours that it passed a bill outlawing love and romance, describing the report as fake and misleading.
House Committee Chairman on Information, Alfred Berger, told newsmen on Wednesday that the Assembly had never contemplated such legislation.
According to him, the so-called bill making the rounds on social media was poorly written and did not follow the Assembly’s drafting style.
“It is purely the imagination of its author,” Berger stated.
On governance matters, Berger said the Assembly was satisfied that Governor Hyacinth Alia implemented its resolutions recommending suspensions of three state appointees. He noted, however, that while lawmakers proposed six-month suspensions, the governor approved only one month.
He added that the key concern of the Assembly was for the officials to vacate office while their activities were under investigation.
