Bayelsa Sets 30 January For Burial Of Late Deputy Governor Ewhrudjakpo

The Bayelsa State Government has fixed 30 January for the burial of its late Deputy Governor, Mr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Governor Douye Diri has announced.

Speaking at the 179th meeting of the State Executive Council in Yenagoa on Wednesday, Diri said a four-day funeral programme had been approved after consultations with a state burial committee.

Ewhrudjakpo, who died on 11 December 2025 at the age of 60, will be honoured with a series of events beginning on 27 January.

According to the governor, the programme will open with sporting activities on 27 January, followed by a Day of Tributes on 28 January. Valedictory sessions are scheduled for 29 January at the State High Court and the Executive Council Chambers.

The governor said a requiem mass would be held on 30 January at St Paul’s Catholic Church in Ofoni, after which the late deputy governor would be laid to rest.

Diri noted that the burial arrangements were jointly agreed upon by the state government, the Ewhrudjakpo family and the church.
