Bayelsa State athletes have boosted their medal haul to 28 at the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, underscoring their strength across multiple disciplines.
The state’s tally so far stands at four gold, six silver and 18 bronze.
Highlights include victories in para-powerlifting where Mabiko Cynthia claimed gold and Dennis Stephen earned silver, and in darts, where the pair of Favour Ketekete and Grace Akiebomo won the Girls’ 501 Doubles final against Plateau.
In wrestling, Okike Emmanuel and Arcbone Pricilla collected silver medals, while swimmer Gift Obodo secured her second silver of the competition and Daniel Udo won bronze.
Bayelsa athletes also impressed in athletics, with Samson Teibowei (boys’ 1500m) and Mikioniso Messiah (long jump) both taking bronze, and the boys’ 4x100m relay team winning silver.
Boxer Great Joseph advanced to the semifinals with a strong victory over Adamawa’s representative.
However, the male and female handball teams saw their campaigns end in the quarterfinals after defeats to Team Delta.
