Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has praised residents of Duguri Gwana in Alkaleri Local Government Area for their resilience after a series of bandit attacks within two weeks.
The governor spoke on Tuesday during a sympathy visit to the community, which suffered four separate attacks in a fortnight.
“The government commends the bravery and sacrifice of the community for their prompt response under very dangerous conditions,” he said.
He extended condolences to bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery, assuring that the state would bear the full cost of treatment.
Mohammed said the government was working closely with the military, police and other security agencies to track down the perpetrators.
He urged urgent federal intervention, noting that security agencies were overstretched and required improved weapons and logistics to confront criminal elements effectively.
The governor disclosed that he had briefed President Bola Tinubu, and that the President expressed sympathy and pledged federal support as Commander-in-Chief.
Mohammed said banditry had been largely contained in other parts of the state through sustained security operations.
He stressed that his administration would not relent until peace was fully restored in Duguri and neighbouring communities.
The governor announced plans to recruit and train more local vigilantes in collaboration with the police.
The Emir of Duguri, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad, described the attacks as a painful setback and appealed for sustained security presence.
The Police Commissioner in the state, Sani Omolori, assured residents of continued joint security operations to protect lives and property.
