Over 1,000 members of the Anglican Diocese of Awka joined the Mother’s Union (MU) on Sunday for their 2026 rededication and thanksgiving service, celebrating 150 years of the organisation worldwide.
His Grace, Most Revd. Alexander Ibezim, Archbishop of the Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka, who led the service, urged women to be prayerful and committed home builders in 2026.
Preaching from Exodus 15:26 in a sermon titled “I am the Lord that Healeth Thee”, Ibezim encouraged members to lean on God for restoration and healing in spiritual, social, and economic matters. Seven new members, church teachers’ wives, were inducted during the service.
Dr Martha Ibezim, President of the MU, praised members for their evangelism and urged them to extend their efforts, while announcing plans for conferences to strengthen leadership, spiritual growth, and community engagement throughout the year.
Mrs Blessing Anikwenwa, the union’s pioneer president in Awka, highlighted the global 150th anniversary as a call to uphold MU principles, and Dame Chika Osinomumu, MUDA’s Protocol Coordinator, noted that spiritually grounded women ensure balanced homes and stronger communities.
The service was attended by men, youths, and representatives from all 26 archdeaconries of the diocese.
