Atiku Abubakar Joins ADC, Promises Fresh Political Challenge To Ruling Party

Nigeria’s former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring that the move marks the start of “real opposition” to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku received his membership card in his hometown of Jada, Adamawa State, after being formally registered by Senator Sadiq Yar’Adua of the ADC Registration and Mobilisation Committee. The event drew influential political figures from the state, signalling what supporters described as a major shift in opposition realignment.

“Today, I have collected my ADC card. Now the real opposition has begun,” Atiku announced. He vowed to work with other opposition leaders to “chase the APC out of government” and appealed to his supporters and Nigerians seeking change to enrol in the ADC.

Adamawa ADC chairman, Shehu Yohanna, said Atiku’s registration marks the start of a mass membership drive across local government areas and wards. He urged women and young people to join the party, while Senator Yar’Adua called on citizens to register to vote in forthcoming elections.

Prominent politicians at the event included former Adamawa governor Bindow Jibrilla, Aishatu Binani, Ahmed Hassan Barata, Aziz Nyako and Ishaku Abbo—indicating growing interest in the party as Nigeria heads toward a tense political season.
