Participants of Course 7/2023 at the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) have embarked on a Geostrategic Study Tour (GSST) to Uganda, Morocco, Togo, and Algeria. The objective of this tour, themed “Protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure of National Defence,” is to provide participants with an understanding of Nigeria’s sphere of influence within its geostrategic environment. The tour, which began on June 10, 2023, aims to explore the relationship between geopolitical mechanisms, Nigeria’s foreign policy, and other countries within and beyond the sub-region.
Major Hashimu Abdullahi, the college’s public relations officer, emphasized the importance of the study tour as a crucial component of the participants’ training curriculum. It offers practical exposure to real-life military operations, tactics, and decision-making processes. By witnessing firsthand the security implications of Nigeria’s regional power status, participants will gain a deeper appreciation for the measures required to maintain this position. Furthermore, the tour aims to broaden their perspectives, enhance critical thinking skills, and enable the application of strategic principles in practical settings.
