The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has strengthened its position in Anambra State following decisive wins in the Anambra South Senatorial District and Onitsha North I Constituency by-elections.
Results announced by the electoral commission showed APGA’s Dr Emmanuel Nwachukwu securing 90,408 votes in the senatorial race, well ahead of APC candidate Chief Azuka Okwuosa with 19,847. In the state assembly poll, APGA’s Mrs Ifeoma Ikpeazu-Azikiwe triumphed with 7,774 votes, defeating ADC’s Mrs Justina Azuka, who garnered 1,909.
Deputy Governor Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim hailed the victories as evidence of APGA’s enduring popularity. “APGA is not just a political party, it is a movement,” he told reporters in Awka, crediting Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s infrastructure projects and social programmes for winning public confidence.
Ibezim thanked voters, party members, security agencies, and INEC for what he described as a peaceful and transparent process, saying the results “inspire hope for better days ahead.”
