The All Progressives Congress (APC), has won 20 of the 23 local government areas chairmanship seats in Saturday’s local government council election in Rivers State.
The outcome of the electoral contest announced on Sunday by the chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Dr Michael Odey also showed that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won three chairmanship seats.
Speaking with journalists, Legal Adviser of PDP in the state, Okachi Ordu, described the election as one of the best things that happened to the state.
He described the election as transparent and credible that will bring peace to the state.
“The election that was conducted on the 30th of August, 2025 is one of the best things that happened in the state, one of the best things that Rivers people are expecting, it’s the best we have ever seen. It’s seamless and rancour free election and the freest and fairest election we have ever seen in Rivers state.
“This is to say Rivers people have come out once again to speak with their PVC to chose those who will man the affairs of Rivers State. And we PDP stakeholders in Rivers State we are very much happy and all results as being declared here today is well expected and we have accepted the result in good faith and for the good and betterment of Rivers state.
“We don’t have any fear of any litigation whatsoever. The election is the free and fairest election we have had in Rivers State so any form of litigation is dead on arrival. Rivers people has spoken and we are okay with what has happened for the peace and tranquility in Rivers state,” Ordu said.
Meanwhile, security operatives, including the Nigeria Police, Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) displayed show of strength on the streets of Port Harcourt metropolis.
The display came barely 24 hours after the local government election
which witnessed massive boycott by voters in the state.
