APC Banner Snub Raises Questions About Shettima’s Role Ahead Of 2027

Tensions over Vice President Kashim Shettima’s relevance in the All Progressives Congress (APC) surfaced on Monday when his photograph was missing from a banner depicting President Bola Tinubu, APC governors, and other key party figures in the North-East.

The banner was displayed at the APC governors and stakeholders constitutional amendment committee and public hearing held at Borno State Hotel, Maiduguri.

Abdulkarim Lawan, Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, expressed frustration over the omission, saying it echoed protests from last year’s zonal meeting in Gombe. “The Vice President is a party leader and most-revered son of the zone; yet his photo is absent on the banner showing the president and important personalities of the party,” Lawan remarked, drawing support from several attendees.

Officials from both the national and zonal levels of the APC did not respond before the opening session ended, leaving speculation over Shettima’s standing in the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
