The Ondo State chapter of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has arrested seven suspects involved in various criminal activities and recovered stolen goods worth over N300 million.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Sunday in Akure by the State Commander of the Corps, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye.
Adeleye said the arrests and recoveries were part of ongoing operations to stem the tide of criminality in the state.
According to him, among those arrested were members of a theft syndicate responsible for transporting stolen electronics — including phones and gadgets — from Lagos to Ondo State through the Ojota Motor Park.
“One of the suspects boarded the same vehicle carrying the goods and repackaged the items into an empty carton during the trip,” Adeleye said. “The suspicious act was uncovered during a stop to refuel, which led to further investigation and the eventual recovery of the stolen items.”
He added that the recovered electronics belong to a licensed dealer in Ondo State and would be returned to the rightful owner upon completion of legal procedures and documentation.
The commander further revealed that some of the suspects were involved in a recent kidnapping case along Itagbolu Road in Akure North Local Government Area. The two abducted victims were rescued six days earlier by Amotekun operatives after a 96-hour forest search.
“The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N50 million, but the families did not pay,” Adeleye said. “We advise residents not to pay ransom, and we’re pleased that most kidnap cases in the last two months have been successfully resolved without any ransom payments.”
He assured the public of Amotekun’s continued commitment to securing lives and property across the state.
