Amotekun Corps Steps Up Security Around Boarding Schools After Kidnapping Alerts

The Ondo State chapter of the Amotekun security network has started reinforced patrols and surveillance around boarding schools as part of broader efforts to prevent kidnappings and other security breaches.

Commander Adetunji Adeleye confirmed the development on Tuesday in Akure while briefing journalists and parading 16 suspects arrested for crimes ranging from banditry to forest raids. He said all schools with boarding facilities now have added security monitoring, especially those situated in border communities.

“We’ve visited many of these schools within the last week and mounted strict surveillance, particularly in schools located on state borders or on the outskirts of town,” Adeleye said.

He noted that the corps has also expanded its 24-hour ‘Ember Month’ border patrol, launched on 6 November under the name Operation Le Won Jade, to deter criminal groups operating within and around forest zones.

According to him, the expanded border patrol has already helped push kidnappers, bandits and other armed groups out of the area. “This operation has driven them away from the forests,” he said.

Adeleye further revealed that 34 arrests had been made over the past week, with 16 suspects now being publicly presented. He urged residents to remain confident in the capacity of security agencies to ensure safety throughout Ondo State.
