A suspected kidnapper and alleged gang leader has been arrested by the Osun State Amotekun Corps, the state’s regional security outfit announced on Sunday.
The suspect, Ayobola Awe, widely known by the alias “Bishop Awasere,” had been wanted in connection with cases of kidnapping and murder.
Amotekun spokesperson Yusuf Abass said operatives tracked Awe and his associates to a hideout in the Isokun district of Ilesa late Saturday. A raid at the location led to his arrest and the recovery of drugs and charms believed to be used for ritual protection.
Several of his gang members escaped, Abass added, noting that efforts were ongoing to apprehend them.
Officials hailed the operation as a “significant stride” in tackling violent crime across Osun State.
