Governor Hyacinth Alia has completed the construction of 25 township roads in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Tersoo Kula, has disclosed.
Kula made this known on Wednesday while leading journalists on an inspection of projects executed by the administration. He said the governor awarded contracts for 41 township roads within two years, out of which 25 have been completed.
He added that more than 390 kilometres of roads were currently under construction across the state, while the underpass bridge at the High Level area of Makurdi had reached 90 per cent completion.
The CPS noted that massive drainage and erosion control works had also been carried out in Idye and Wurukum to mitigate perennial flooding in the capital city.
On industrial development, Kula said the government had completed the multi-billion naira Food Basket Brewery, with installation of equipment already ongoing. The brewery will produce Benue’s new beer brand, Zeva.
Mr Emmanuel Adoje, Plant Manager of Benue Food Basket Brewery Limited, confirmed that installation of the factory’s equipment began on August 17 and would be concluded before production commences in November. He said the plant has capacity to produce 2,500 crates of beer daily.
Kula further explained that the underpass bridge in Gboko was at the finishing stage, while projects were ongoing in all local government areas. He also disclosed that 98 primary healthcare centres were under renovation, alongside massive reconstruction of primary schools.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that projects inspected included township roads, erosion control sites, the Makurdi underpass bridge, and state-owned juice factories, most of which have been completed, with others nearing completion.
