Airstrikes In Borno Foil Terror Plot, Destroy Major Militant Base

A suspected terrorist training camp in Nigeria’s northeast has been levelled by military airstrikes, following intelligence that insurgents were planning coordinated attacks on local communities.

The air raid was executed on Monday by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, targeting a fortified terrorist enclave in Bukar Meram, a remote area near the Lake Chad basin. The Nigerian Air Force confirmed the mission in an official statement released in Abuja.

The spokesperson for the Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the operation was launched after intelligence services uncovered plans to launch attacks on Marte and Monguno – towns in Borno State that have previously suffered from extremist violence.

“The precision strikes eliminated several militants and destroyed key assets, including weapons depots, makeshift shelters, and transport vehicles. The operation prevented a serious threat to civilian lives and national stability,” Ejodame noted.

The success of the mission, confirmed through battle damage assessments, further highlights the Nigerian military’s ongoing shift toward proactive counter-terrorism strategies in the Lake Chad region.

Security forces have increasingly relied on intelligence-led operations and air power to tackle insurgent groups who use remote, difficult terrain as hideouts and launchpads for attacks.

The Air Force reaffirmed its dedication to securing Nigeria’s northeastern region and contributing to broader peace efforts, as communities continue to rebuild after years of conflict.
