AGN Celebrates Segun Arinze At 60

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has honoured veteran Nollywood actor and former president of the guild, Segun Arinze, as he marked his 60th birthday.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja, Abubakar Yakubu, National Secretary of AGN, described the milestone as an opportunity to celebrate Arinze’s immense contributions to the film industry.

“On behalf of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, its leadership, the BOT and all members, I wish Segun Arinze a happy 60th birthday. He has contributed meaningfully to Nollywood, served our noble guild, mentored many actors and inspired countless others,” Yakubu said.

Arinze, popularly known as “Black Arrow” from his role in the 1996 Nollywood classic Silent Night, had earlier taken to Instagram to express gratitude to his family, colleagues and friends. “This milestone is not just about me; it’s about all of us who have walked this path together. I celebrate you as much as I celebrate myself,” he wrote.

Born on Sept. 24, 1965, Arinze began his career as a singer before fully embracing acting. Though his debut album, Dream, did not achieve commercial success, he went on to feature in over 100 films. Today, he also works as an acting coach and with a leading African international film festival, where he continues to mentor the next generation of talents.
