ADC Chairman David Mark Pays Tribute To Late Journalist Yakubu Mohammed

Senator David Mark, National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has paid tribute to the late Mr Yakubu Mohammed, founding Editor of Newswatch magazine, describing him as one of Nigeria’s most courageous and influential journalists.

According to a statement released on Wednesday in Kano by his Special Adviser on Media, Paul Mumed, Mark said Mohammed was a towering figure in investigative journalism whose work significantly enhanced the credibility of the Nigerian media.

He said the late journalist was part of a rare generation whose dedication to truth, balance and professionalism helped define modern journalism in Nigeria and reinforced the nation’s democratic values.

“Yakubu Mohammed was more than a journalist; he was an institution,” Mark said. “Through his leadership at Newswatch, he helped redefine investigative reporting and set enduring standards for excellence in the media. His integrity and fearlessness will continue to inspire generations.”

Mark noted that Mohammed’s passing, coming shortly after the death of fellow Newswatch icon Dan Agbese, represented a profound loss to the Fourth Estate of the Realm. He described Mohammed as a media icon whose pen was driven by patriotism and an unwavering sense of responsibility to society.

The former Senate President offered his heartfelt condolences to Mohammed’s family, the management and staff of Newswatch magazine, and the entire Nigerian media community. He also prayed for God to grant the bereaved family strength and for the peaceful repose of the late journalist’s soul.

“May his legacy of fearless journalism, professionalism and service to the nation continue to guide and inspire the media and the younger generation,” Mark added.
