ADC Candidate Mourns Victims Of Nawfia Gun Attack, Urges Overhaul Of Anambra Security System

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for the forthcoming 8 November election in Anambra State, Mr John Nwosu, has expressed deep sorrow over Sunday’s gun attack in Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area. The assault, which claimed four lives, has triggered widespread grief across the community.

In a statement released in Awka on Monday, Nwosu said he received the news of the killings with shock, describing the incident as a traumatic blow to the people of Nawfia and to Anambra State at large. He condemned the attack as “senseless” and a deliberate attempt to destabilise an already fragile security climate.

Nwosu voiced concern that insecurity in the state was steadily deteriorating. He urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to urgently review and strengthen the state’s security architecture, noting that the existing framework appeared overstretched and increasingly ineffective.

He called on residents to remain calm, vigilant and supportive of security agencies as investigations continue. According to him, Sunday’s tragedy reinforces the need for a far more comprehensive and modern approach to securing the state.

The ADC candidate stressed that Anambra must now adopt technology-driven measures, including real-time surveillance systems, improved communication infrastructure and data-led early warning mechanisms. Such tools, he argued, would help detect threats promptly and facilitate quicker response.

Offering his condolences, Nwosu said his thoughts were with the families who lost loved ones in the attack. He assured them of his solidarity during what he described as an agonising moment for the entire community.

He reiterated his readiness to contribute to efforts aimed at restoring peace and protecting lives across the state. According to him, safeguarding residents must remain the top priority for anyone seeking to lead Anambra.

Nwosu encouraged the governor to consider adopting the security blueprint he has repeatedly proposed, which includes establishing a fully functional command-and-control centre, deploying surveillance drones and installing AI-driven facial recognition cameras across the state.
