Health authorities in Adamawa State, northeastern Nigeria, have intensified efforts to control a cholera outbreak that has killed 10 people in Mubi Local Government Area, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Felix Tangwami, said on Wednesday.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola, Tangwami disclosed that the victims had died at home before reaching medical facilities. He urged the public to maintain good hygiene and report any suspected cases immediately.
The commissioner said the government, working closely with the World Health Organization (WHO), had deployed response teams including epidemiologists, disease control experts, and volunteers to provide medical care and educate communities about preventive measures.
“As soon as the outbreak was detected, we moved in swiftly,” Tangwami said, confirming that 25 patients were being treated while many others had recovered.
He called on community and traditional leaders to support government efforts by encouraging residents to visit health centres early, stressing that timely treatment could save lives.
