The Police Command in Abuja has launched an urgent investigation after a woman was found dead in a hotel under mysterious circumstances, sparking widespread public concern.
The incident came to light after a viral video surfaced online, showing the woman—later identified as Aladi Johnson (also known as Tessy)—found unconscious in a hotel room in Gwarinpa, a district of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory. She was discovered with her hands tied behind her back.
Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh confirmed the development on Wednesday, revealing that Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, had ordered a full investigation into the death.
Preliminary findings indicate that Johnson had checked into the hotel on 16 June, accompanied by an unidentified man. The man was later seen leaving the hotel alone. Concerned hotel staff found the woman unresponsive during a routine service check, and she was subsequently confirmed dead by medical personnel.
Authorities have begun reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing staff, and gathering forensic evidence to determine the timeline of events and the identity of the male companion.
Commissioner Adewale appealed for public calm and cooperation, assuring that the investigation would be thorough and transparent. He extended his condolences to the victim’s family and reiterated the police’s commitment to uncovering the truth.
In light of the incident, the police issued a public advisory urging young women to be cautious when dealing with strangers and to share their movements with family or trusted contacts. Hotels were also advised to reinforce security protocols, ensure strict identity verification for guests, and maintain functional surveillance systems to deter potential crimes.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the FCT Police Command has pledged to provide updates as more information becomes available.
