The Nigerian capital is set for a major urban upgrade as the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) formally signs a partnership with MAG International Links Limited to develop the Abuja City Walk—an ambitious mixed-use district modelled on Dubai’s famed City Walk.
Announced at a signing ceremony in Abuja, the project covers 200 hectares at Abuja Technology Village and is scheduled for partial delivery by May 2026 to mark President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office. The project combines retail, hospitality, medical facilities, housing, and cultural spaces to create a dynamic urban centre.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike stressed that the initiative reflects a renewed commitment to curb land speculation and drive genuine infrastructure development.
“For years, Abuja’s land has been allocated without real development. That’s over. Any developer who fails to meet deadlines will lose the land. We’re serious about change,” Wike said.
He confirmed that MAG International had already obtained building approvals and would be handed the Certificate of Occupancy immediately. To fast-track implementation, the minister ordered the removal of bureaucratic barriers and insisted that construction must begin by August 2025.
“This will not be another abandoned promise. One part of the project must be ready for President Tinubu to commission in May next year,” Wike added.
MAG International’s Executive Director, Dr Kassim Gidado, described the Abuja City Walk as a “flagship” project for the company and a symbol of investor confidence in Nigeria’s capital.
“We’re going beyond the Dubai example. The Abuja City Walk will incorporate local culture and modern facilities, including top-tier healthcare. It’s a 100% Nigerian-led venture,” Gidado stated.
The development is poised to revitalise the area and create thousands of jobs while promoting Nigeria as a destination for investment and innovation in urban planning.
