Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, will host the former Archbishop of Canterbury, the Right Reverend and Right Honourable Justin Welby, for a public lecture on inter-ethnic and religious harmony as part of its 45th Convocation Ceremony.

The university announced this in a statement released on Monday by its Director of Public Affairs, Malam Auwalu Umar.

The lecture, titled “Building Inter-Ethnic and Religious Harmony in Nigeria: Pathways to National Unity,” is scheduled to take place on 29 January.

According to the statement, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the ABU Governing Council, Malam Mahmud Yayale-Ahmed, will preside over the event.

Umar said the lecture is expected to draw a wide range of dignitaries, including former national leaders, serving and former ministers, governors, traditional rulers, religious leaders and representatives of socio-cultural groups.

Justin Welby, who served as the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury between 2013 and 2024, was the spiritual head of the Anglican Communion worldwide.

The statement noted that Welby’s acceptance of the invitation reflects his long-standing commitment to promoting dialogue, peacebuilding and national cohesion.
