‘A True Patriot’: Governor Okpebholo Mourns Former President Buhari

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has described late former President Muhammadu Buhari as a man whose life was marked by integrity, discipline, and an enduring love for Nigeria.

Buhari, who passed away in a London hospital after a brief illness, leaves behind what the Governor called an “indelible mark” on the nation’s history.

In a statement released through his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo paid tribute to Buhari’s steadfast fight against corruption and his tireless efforts to protect Nigeria’s security.

“He was a man of immense character, whose service to Nigeria was driven by sincerity and selflessness,” Okpebholo said. “His dedication to the country’s progress, from boosting infrastructure to supporting agricultural development and confronting insurgency, is part of a legacy that will endure.”

The Governor also praised Buhari’s continued role as an elder statesman after leaving office, highlighting how the former president offered guidance and support when called upon.

Expressing his deepest sympathies to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina State, and the nation, Governor Okpebholo concluded: “May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may his loved ones find strength to bear this great loss.”
