Senator Ahmed Makarfi, former Governor of Kaduna State, has mourned the passing of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a patriot whose service to the nation will be remembered by generations.
In a condolence message shared on Sunday, Makarfi said he received the news of Buhari’s death in a London clinic “with shock but also total submission to the will of Allah (SWT).”
“From the fight he fought for the preservation of the unity and integrity of the country as a young officer of the Nigerian Army, to his roles as Military Governor of the North-Eastern and Borno States, Minister of Petroleum, General Officer Commanding, Head of State, Executive Chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund, and finally as a two-term President, he demonstrated total commitment to the country and humanity,” Makarfi reflected.
He noted that Buhari’s life provides valuable lessons for Nigerians across ethnic, religious, and regional lines, praising him as a leader who consistently strived to move the country forward.
“His death at this time, when the country still needs his wise counsel as a highly respected former leader, is therefore a source of sadness for all of us,” he added.
Makarfi expressed heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s immediate family, associates, and all Nigerians, offering prayers for strength and peace.
“I pray to Allah to forgive his shortcomings, strengthen his family and give all of us the courage to bear this irreparable loss,” he concluded.
