KOICA Expended $13m On E-governance Projects Since 2013 – GBB

The Galaxy Backbone (GBB) says the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has spent 13 million dollars in Nigeria’s e-government projects since 2013.

The Managing-Director, GBB, Dr Ibrahim Adeyanju, made this known at the Stakeholders Engagement Workshop on e-government services and digital infrastructure in Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the workshop is a collaboration between GBB and KOICA to discuss progress and challenges of implementing the Government Service Portal (GSP) initiative.

Adeyanju said that the project was not Artificial Intelligence (AI) blockchain inclined but it can come in based on Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) to improve the security infrastructure.

“There are other projects that KOICA was handling across different government agencies

“The GSP is a testament to the Nigerian government’s commitment to transforming public service delivery through the power of technology.

“This portal, developed in partnership with KOICA, will serve as a one-stop shop for citizens to access a wide range of government services efficiently, transparently and securely.

“The objective of the workshop is to create awareness and ensure sensitisation among all stakeholders on the importance of the GSP,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Faruk Yabo, said that the project is hosted within government owned cloud by GBB to ensure data security.

“This is going to be hosted within the government-owned cloud, the galaxy platform because countries around the world are looking up to the sovereignty of their data and its security.

“One of the key things the galaxy platform is doing is to quantify its digital environment with different kinds of safety measures.

“We are having a sustainable institution in galaxy platform driving this with all of us ensuring that things are done right.

“We are sure to have something more reliable against having to rely on some other people,” he said.

The Country Director, KOICA, Sungil SON, expressed optimism that the workshop would not only foster valuable discussions, but also set the stage for realising the full objectives of the GSP.

“As we aim for the full activation of the GSP in the first half of 2025, I look forward to seeing how service integration targets can be achieved.

“I am keen to hear your insights and suggestions, which will help us to fully realiSe the development goals of the GSP,” he said.

NAN reports that the project was implemented in February 2023. (NAN)
